Victory for Pelican Marina Residences in the Necol Regatta, February 9-10

Sailing in challenging gusty conditions, a boat representing Pelican Marina Residences recently came first in the Necol Regatta held on February 9 to 10. Skippered by Frits Bus, the crew dominated on points and won nine of the 15 races. The regatta is one of the most important events in the island lagoon sailing calendar and attracts the finest local sailors. Regatta sponsor, Necol is a company specializing in electronic systems for yachts.

The 2008 Heineken Regatta

Scheduled to take place from March 6 to 9, the 28th Heineken Regatta promises to be the best one ever with a record turnout in the categories of Spinnaker, Non Spinnaker, Bareboat, Multi-hull, Beach Cat and Open Class Boats. Over 250 boats crewed by over 2,500 sailors from 40 different countries are expected to compete in three days of racing.    

The Heineken Regatta is one of the most important events in the Caribbean yachting calendar and waterfront revels match the thrill of the races with parties and plenty of live music. From Barbados, Alison Hinds, the queen of Soca music, is set to perform at the Saturday night party in Marigot and the final awards party on Sunday features Jamaican reggae performer Shaggy. Tuesday night is Harmony Night in Grande Case. Join visitors and locals at this popular annual street party with craft, art and food stalls and live music. 

St. Maarten Carnival
Carnival season on St. Maarten is synonymous with pageants, colorful parades for children and adults, live music, dancing, Caribbean cooking and street parties. It kicks off on March 29 with pageants and reaches a climax on Tuesday, April 29 with the Grand Parade. There is a follow up parade on April 30, an International Show on May 1 and 2 and the closing J’ouvert or Jump-Up or street party is on May 3.
April 30 is also a public holiday in the Netherlands Antilles to honor the Queen’s birthday.
